About the fund

The Government Pension Fund Global was established after Norway discovered oil in the North Sea. The fund was set up to shield the economy from ups and downs in oil revenue. It also serves as a financial reserve and as a long-term savings plan so that both current and future generations of Norway get to benefit from our national wealth.

Who decides what?

The governance structure ensures that important decisions concerning the level of risk assumed have the support of the fund's owners, represented by the Norwegian government and the Storting. However, it is emphasised that there must be sufficient delegation to ensure that operational investment decisions are made close to the markets the fund is invested in.

The Parliament (Stortinget)

Has laid down the formal framework for the fund in the Government Pension Fund Act.

Ministry of Finance

Has overall responsibility for the fund and issues guidelines for its management.

Norges Bank

Is responsible for managing the fund. The Executive Board has delegated the operational management of the fund to Norges Bank Investment Management.

Norges Bank Investment Management

Manages the fund with the mission of safeguarding and building financial wealth for future generations.

We are 676 people from 37 countries with offices in Oslo, London, New York and Singapore.

How can AI be implemented in practice to deliver real results? In this session, you’ll get an inside look at the fund's strategy for AI implementation, aiming to become 20 percent more efficient in 2025. We’ll share our concrete approach along with practical examples and experiences that can be applied to other organisations.

CEO Nicolai Tangen will be joined by Tine Austvoll Jensen (Google) and Aleksander Stensby (GritAI) to discuss both the challenges and opportunities of AI in the business sector. The conversation will be moderated by Marthe Skaar, Chief Communications and External Officer at the fund.

Half-year reporting 2025

Publication of the fund's half-year reporting 2025. The results will be presented at a press conference at Arendalsuka at 10:00 CET on the same day. The press conference will also be live-streamed.

Arendalsuka is a national annual event, where representatives from organisations, businesses and political parties from all of Norway meet and discuss central topics.

Panel discussion: The fund in turbulent times

How is the fund navigating a world marked by growing uncertainty? CEO Nicolai Tangen and Norway's Minister of Finance Jens Stoltenberg will discuss the fund’s role in turbulent times. You’ll gain insight into the fund’s strengths and vulnerabilities – and how past experiences have shaped the way we manage Norway’s oil wealth today.

An expert panel will also address some of the big questions: How robust is the fund? How are we preparing for future challenges? And what's the outlook for "Norway’s piggy bank"?
